AHAs (fruit acids) such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, or BHAs (particularly salicylic acid) are recognized for their effectiveness in treating the skin, and their use is particularly widespread. However, this category of ingredient can also cause irritation for sensitive skin. Gentleness is therefore a key criterion when choosing a product.

Some products also use PHAs such as gluconolactone, which are less irritating but generally considered less powerful than classic AHAs.

At a 6% concentration, niacinamide becomes a particularly powerful active ingredient for regulating sebum, soothing inflammation, and evening out skin tone, while remaining well-tolerated. There are other purifying active ingredients for acne, such as succinic acid, but their effects are more targeted and less well-documented, falling far short of the level of effectiveness and versatility offered by niacinamide at this concentration.

It all depends on the type of cosmetic used. Some contain oils such as cocoa oil or linseed oil which can smother the skin and prevent it from breathing, whether organic or not. Generally speaking, it is possible to wear makeup, provided you choose makeup specifically formulated to be compatible with blemish-prone skin. These are non-comedogenic products, sometimes already offering purifying and anti-blemish efficacy, such as Exfoliac BB creams, which correct, soothe, and hydrate while covering imperfections.

During the day, if you’ll be out in the sun, it may be a good idea to apply sunscreen after your serum. Some products combine SPF with mattifying properties, such as Exfoliac Mattifying Sun Fluid SPF 50+.

Through cell renewal and its exfoliating effect, the Exfoliac serum evens out the complexion. However, it does not have any specifically proven brightening, anti-dark spot, or anti-wrinkle effects.
